What are those titles some of the instructors have?
Shinan is a prestigious title in martial arts, “Shinan” translates to “Founder” or “Master Instructor.” It is bestowed upon the individual who has created and established a martial arts style or system. As a Shinan, this person holds the highest level of authority and expertise within their discipline, guiding and mentoring students with profound knowledge and insight into the art they have developed.
Kyoshi is a title awarded to a highly experienced and respected martial arts instructor, typically holding a rank of 7th or 8th Dan. It signifies a deep committment to teaching and preserving the martial art.
Shihan is a respected title in martial arts, “Shihan” means “Master Instructor” or “Teacher of Teachers.” It is awarded to experienced martial artists who have demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication to teaching. A Shihan is often responsible for guiding and mentoring other instructors, and their expertise is recognized as a high standard within their discipline.
Sensei is a Japanese term meaning “teacher” or “instructor,” “Sensei” is a title of respect used in martial arts and other disciplines. It is given to someone who has gained a high level of knowledge, skill, and experience, and who is responsible for guiding and instructing students. A Sensei not only teaches techniques but also imparts the values, traditions, and philosophy of the martial art.
